Hello and – karibu – to season two of the East Africa Travel Podcast, hosted by me, Charlotte Beauvoisin, author of Diary of a Muzungu, a travel blog I’ve been writing since 2008.
Welcome to my world!
You’ll be blown away by the tropical birds, chimpanzees – and occasionally elephants – that I hear from my wooden house at Sunbird Hill here on the edge of Kibale Forest, one of Uganda’s national parks.
Can you believe I lie in bed recording the sound of chimpanzees buttress drumming deep in the forest? I’ve worked in conservation and tourism in East Africa for 15 years, and I’ve met some extraordinary people along the way. I’ve had so much fun hosting them in season one.
The East Africa Travel Podcast is inspired by my life on the edge of Kibale Forest.
Living here during lockdown was a very powerful experience. Despite the remoteness, the daily interaction with nature gave me an even deeper appreciation of nature and the power of living in the moment, and absorbing the detail of a colourful butterfly – or even a dung beetle!
Join me on my morning walks. Sometimes it’s just you and me and the birds. Other times I walk with visitors, rangers, expert bird guides, or travel writers. Join me on safari. We’ll be tracking gorillas, chimpanzees; meeting biologists, zoologists, writers, and regular people who are visiting Uganda and wider East Africa and sharing their experiences with us.
There’s one big thing that all my guests have in common, and that’s their love for Africa and for travel and for nature and the natural world.
Once in a while we’ll explore the urban jungles of Africa too. Listen out for episodes from Kampala, Nairobi, and Mombasa. Occasionally we venture beyond East Africa, but always within the continent.
Everything you hear on the East Africa Travel Podcast is recorded by me on location.
Listen to season one if you want to hear how I started the podcast and why; and who I am: this muzungu living in Uganda!
Send me a message if you’d like to feature on the podcast, or you’ve got a cool place or person who you think would be a nice fit.

I hope you enjoy the next episodes.
A good start! Uganda in my appartement.❤️❤️
Just back from my morning walk along the edge of the forest.
It’s amazing to think you’re listening to the sounds of Uganda’s forests in your Paris apartment! “Uganda sur Seine” you said! LOL.
Now you know why I love living here so much. I can’t wait to organise your trip to Uganda! x
P.S. no peacocks here – just EVERYTHING else!
This is wonderful, Charlotte, congratulations!
Thanks Adrienn so glad you like it.
I’ve been working on this podcast for a while now. It’s very exciting to finally be be out there, sharing some sounds of Uganda’s fabulous forest life.
The sounds of the natural world. I should visit this exact spot.
Thanks for adding great value to Uganda’s tourism experience, and for promoting our Railway Museum in Jinja – we are so appreciative that we started with you on day 1!
Thanks for taking the time to listen – and comment!
I’m so addicted to the sounds of nature but you know I love the railway too, in fact I passed by the Uganda Railway Museum in Jinja a few weeks ago. Sorry I didn’t see you (but I had a lovely chat with Prossy).
I would love to dedicate an episode to the Uganda Railway (and the Lunatic Express). Wouldn’t that be fun?
Hey Simpson thanks for taking the time to listen & leave a comment too 🙂
It’s funny to think I am now recording a podcast about insects when “once upon a time” I had such a PHOBIA about insects!
In fact, I was thinking about you yesterday when I spotted the World’s Biggest Cockroach in my bathroom! I think it must have come out of the plughole… Once upon a time I would not have slept if I knew there was one in the same room …
