How to get to Kalangala, Ssese Islands

September 2020: currently there are two ways to travel to Kalangala:

Nyanza Waterways Kalangala Ssese ferry schedule August 2020
Nyanza Waterways Kalangala Ssese ferry schedule August 2020
  • Option 1. Take the MV Vanessa or MV Nathalie from Nakiwogo (Port Alice) in Entebbe. The journey is one hour and fifteen minutes. This is a passenger ferry so Philo Leisure Gardens will collect you from the MV Vanessa arrival point on Kalangala and drive you back to the hotel (at no additional cost to you).
  • Philo Leisure Gardens advise that “most times, MV Vanessa / MV Nathalie tend to set off earlier, as soon as they are up to capacity” so you are advised to travel early.
  • Option 2. Alternatively you can drive to Masaka and get the ferry from Bukakata. This ferry takes 30 minutes. Upon arrival, drive 40 minutes to Kalangala Town.
  • Option 3 (which is not available September 2020). The regular ferry from Entebbe – the MV Kalangala – is not operating as the docking piers are being renovated due to the recent high water levels on Lake Victoria. MV Kalangala also departs from Nakiwogo (Port Alice) Entebbe. Once operational again, the MV Kalangala takes three and half hours to reach Kalangala.
